1. Your lab values never leave your device
The numbers you type into our tools — the Lab Report Decoder, A1c calculator, and eGFR calculator — are processed entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. They are never sent to our servers, stored in a database, or shared with anyone. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after a tool page loads; the calculators continue to work.
2. A note on HIPAA
HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) applies to "covered entities" such as healthcare providers, health plans, and their business associates. LabDecode is an educational website and is not a covered entity, so HIPAA does not directly govern us. Even so, we have intentionally designed the site to be HIPAA-aligned: because we never receive or store your health values, there is no protected health information for us to safeguard or expose.
3. Information we do collect
- Anonymous analytics: aggregate data such as which pages are visited, general geographic region (country/state level), device type, and referral source. This helps us improve content. It does not identify you personally.
- Contact form details: if you email us or use our contact form, we receive the name, email, and message you provide. We use this only to respond to you.
- Cookies: we may use minimal cookies for analytics and basic functionality. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.
4. Information we do NOT collect
- Your lab values, test results, or any numbers entered into our tools.
- Your name, date of birth, or medical record information (unless you voluntarily email it — please don't).
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information to third parties.
5. Third-party services
We may use reputable third-party providers for website analytics and advertising. These providers may set their own cookies and have their own privacy policies. We configure analytics to anonymize IP addresses where supported.
6. Your choices (including US state privacy rights)
Depending on your state (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, delete, or opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. Because we do not sell personal information and collect minimal data, honoring these rights is straightforward. To make a request, contact us.
7. Children's privacy
LabDecode is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. We will revise the "last updated" date above when we do. Significant changes will be noted prominently.
