About PawMetrics

Built by people who got tired of bad calculators

PawMetrics exists because the calculators we found online were either oversimplified, riddled with affiliate ads, or just plain wrong.

Why we built this

Every dog owner has had the same experience: you Google "how much should I feed my dog," and you find a calculator that asks for the dog's weight and... that's it. No life stage. No neuter status. No activity level. The output is a single number with no context for how to use it.

Or worse — you find a calculator that gives confident numbers based on no recognised formula at all.

Dogs deserve better. Their owners deserve better. We built PawMetrics to be the calculator suite we wished existed: every tool grounded in published veterinary formulas, every result explained, every page free of pop-ups and affiliate spam.

Our approach

Three principles guide everything we publish:

  1. Use the formulas vets use. RER × MER for calories. The 1–9 BCS scale. The 2020 epigenetic-clock formula for age. The 50–60 ml/kg baseline for water. No invented math.
  2. Show the reasoning. Every calculator includes the formula, the assumptions, and what to do with the result. We trust you to handle the explanation.
  3. Stay free and useful. No sign-up walls, no email captures before showing results, no upsell to a paid app.

Who's behind it

PawMetrics is built by a small team of dog owners with backgrounds in product design, technical writing, and data analysis — collaborating with veterinarians and certified canine nutritionists for content review. We're not a clinic; we're not your dog's vet. We're the resource that helps you ask better questions when you see your vet.

How we keep things accurate

  • All calculator formulas are sourced from published veterinary references (WSAVA, AAHA, peer-reviewed nutrition literature).
  • Articles are reviewed for accuracy before publication.
  • We update content when new research changes recommendations.
  • We disclose limitations openly — every calculator includes an honest caveat about what it can't do.

What we'll never do

  • Diagnose your dog. (Calculators are tools, not vets.)
  • Sell your data. We don't capture personal information at all.
  • Recommend specific products in exchange for payment without disclosure.
  • Replace the veterinary relationship. We're a complement, not a substitute.
